History of the buildingAs far as we know the building was constructed around 1900, we believe it was for the Duke of Beaufort or lord Homphrey. Built to settle a family disagreement. From local historians and Trevor the milk, we're told its been used as a hotel and as a family home where Trevor the Milk remembers looking into the kitchens and seeing servants preparing meals for those upstairs. It has been used as the council offices. People tell us they remember climbing the stairs at the front of the building, which led to a small window where they paid for their coal. The stairs are still there but lead nowhere, the window having been blocked up a long time ago. The council moved to Bedwellty house. The building was then used for various things of which there are unclear records. Before we used the building it was used by the Hospice of the valleys as a day care center for cancer patients. Their work continues in the building next door. It was also used as storage space for the little theatre group's costumes and bric-a-brac.
